The New York State is distributing Robots to senior citizens

The New York State government is investing in a small army of robots, but not for war. They want to be companions for elderly people who live alone. In the past few months, they’ve distributed around 500 of the robots to senior citizens with dementia across the state of New York.

NASA Is Thinking For A Second Moon Lander

American space giant NASA has announced its plans for a second human  lunar lander for the first time since the 1970s for its Artemis program that is the agency’s  major  spaceflight initiative to send humans back to the moon. 

Competition To Build The Vehicle

There is a tough competition between companies as NASA is calling on commercial space companies to propose their ideas for the lunar lander that can take people to and from the Moon’s orbit and the lunar surface, with the target to get it ready by 2026 or 2027.
But here’s the thing, NASA already has a contract with SpaceX for its Artemis program which it awarded to SpaceX worth $2.9 billion to develop the  lander  which aims to land the first woman and the first person of color on the moon. 
NASA  had originally wanted to pick two companies for the program to have a competition and to keep costs down, the three finalists being- SpaceX, Blue Origin and Dynamics. But the agency ultimately chose one due to budget constraints.

The Winning Bid

NASA had requested Congress for $3.4 billion to fund the Artemis project for the year 2021 but received only $850 million i.e., 25 % of what was asked. Due to this NASA went with SpaceX as it offered the most affordable bid. 

The Lawsuit

But picking one finalist didn’t set well with the losing Blue Origin . Hence, Blue Origin decided to sue NASA in the federal court  but lost. In October, the Senate Appropriation Committee introduced a bill that would direct NASA to pick a second company but in the most recent budget bill it was not forced to do so and also received the full $1.195 billion that the agency asked for to develop the lunar landers. NASA is announcing official plans to select another company ahead of President’s Joe Biden’s budget request expected next week.

Bill Nelson, NASA’s administrator said “ competition leads to better, more reliable outcomes,” announcing the news. He also said “ It benefits everybody. It benefits NASA. It benefits the American people.” Everyone but SpaceX will be able to compete for this contract and with regard to this NASA plans to make some changes to SpaceX’s existing contract.

The Review

With 128GB of storage and 8GB of RAM, our review unit is a premium-spec device for an affordable price. We also appreciate how light and thin it feels in hand thanks to its body construction (yes, even though it looks metal). It feels great to hold even after prolonged use! Let’s talk about its triple rear camera setup now: A 64MP Main sensor, an 8MP Ultrawide sensor and a 2MP Macro sensor. AI enabled features like portrait mode, nightscape, panorama, time lapse, slow motion and pro mode to capture professional quality images. Its secondary camera is a 16 MP camera which takes precise pictures.

However, there’s a slight tradeoff here: there’s no optical image stabilization. In our experience using it, we’d say that OxygenOS based on Android 11 makes all the difference in taking clear photos while moving. We are pleasantly surprised by how well built and fast it is. It’s not an ultimate powerhouse but it does handle itself surprisingly well. It also has some neat features that you wouldn’t see on much more expensive phones.

What We Think About It

For its low price and excellent specifications, we rate it 9/10. It’s a great phone for anyone who wants to stay connected but doesn’t want to break their bank in order to do so. It’s also a good choice for those who are looking for an affordable second phone that they can use when they travel or need extra coverage on social media.

An AR Headset is being build by Google

Word on the street is that Google is working on building their own augmented reality headset, similar to Microsoft’s Hololens and Magic Leap’s Magic Leap One . We can’t wait to try it out! The possibilities for AR are limitless – you could walk through your new house before moving in or study human anatomy by peering inside your own body.

He said Google has been working on technology for years, and a project called Project iris is finally ready to show off. The device will be able to superimpose information and graphics over what you see in front of you with your own eyes, without needing glasses or other equipment. No launch date or price was announced but he added that more news would be coming soon about when it will become available for consumers. Google has made some early prototypes available to developers who work with new technologies.

How will it work?

Project Iris is Google’s experimental AR headset that uses two cameras to project images onto your lenses. The prototype device can track objects in front of you, so if you place a cup of coffee on a table, it will stay there as you walk around and view it from various angles. You can also share what you see with other people who aren’t wearing Project Iris by using an app on your phone or tablet. Google hasn’t said much about how we might interact with virtual objects through these headsets yet—and it remains to be seen whether they could ever actually replace our real-world environment. Computing power will only get smaller and more powerful in time.

What is Augmented Reality?

Augmented reality—or AR—lets you see information projected onto your view of reality. It is a way to look at and interact with digital content in our physical world, providing a window into a virtual one. The most common use for AR is for smartphone apps that project information onto your screen using camera tricks. However, we’re now seeing significant investment from companies like Google in AR headsets, which could allow us to project 3D or 360-degree content directly into our line of sight—like holograms. For instance, Project Iris could potentially let you take virtual meetings or immerse yourself in a game right around your coffee table.

What we think about it?

If a VR headset completely immerses you in a digital world, an AR headset will layer digital content onto your real-world surroundings. Project Iris is a Google project that builds on Project Tango’s 3D mapping technology to superimpose virtual objects on top of real-world surfaces and make them interactive. One demo had users creating digital paintings on top of physical canvases, which were also displayed inside their headsets as part of a virtual museum tour.
We think Google has plans for more than just Project Iris.

You might not be able to buy one from Google anytime soon, but we’re excited about what it means for future technologies like Amazon’s Alexa and Apple’s Siri.
