Microsoft to acquire Activision Blizzard

Microsoft has announced its intent to acquire Activision Blizzard in an all-cash transaction valued at $68.7 billion. The deal, which has been approved by the boards of directors of both companies, will bring together two leaders in creating entertaining and innovative gaming experiences across PC, console, mobile, and tablet platforms. The acquisition accelerates Microsoft’s ongoing transition from being primarily software focused to becoming a player in the world of hardware and services designed around the cloud and artificial intelligence (AI).

Quick Overview

The software maker expects to complete its acquisition of Activision Blizzard, with plans to introduce new game titles from developers owned by Microsoft in their current franchises and new franchises. If you’re wondering what led Microsoft to make such a massive acquisition, it’s because its rival Sony is about to release PlayStation VR and competitor Oculus VR is soon launching Oculus Touch—which will likely encourage gamers away from using Xbox One controllers (and not just for virtual reality) by enticing them with full-body controls via VR controllers. Microsoft seems poised to take advantage of that shift in gaming market share by acquiring one of biggest names in console gaming today.

How will it benefit Microsoft?

Microsoft is making waves in investment in virtual reality and augmented reality, investing over $100 million in research and development for technologies such as HoloLens AR headsets, VR headsets such as Oculus Rift, and Microsoft has launched a Mixed Reality dev kit called Windows Mixed Reality Development Edition. The Metaverse platform offers an open-source solution that allows developers to create immersive worlds; it is not just limited to gaming alone, but instead can be used as a multi-user interactive experience. For example, allow users to walk around their house while seeing an avatar of themselves projected into a video game or interactive program.

What is Metaverse?

Metaverse is a protocol for virtual universes which uses blockchain technology to build decentralized online communities. Through transnational networks of shared digital space, Metaverse blurs physical world borders and opens infinite possibilities for value transfers through interactions between participants from all over the world. By extending support for non-fungible tokens, smart contracts, Oracle, and other extensions on public blockchains such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, Metaverse builds an open ecosystem in which all values in all forms can be registered and exchanged freely. The development team hopes that Metaverse will be used by businesses as their underlying public blockchain infrastructure to take advantage of greater scalability compared with first-generation public blockchains while still retaining decentralization of data.

What we think about it?

In just 2 years, Microsoft has changed their strategy from hardware and software conglomerate to one of world leading metaverse platforms. The acquisition of a large gaming company like Activision is a huge step in that direction and seems to explain Microsoft’s decision to continue putting pressure on Sony and Nintendo by building their new product around backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 games rather than hardware exclusives. Additionally, although online games are a competitor to their XBox Live platform, it’s worth noting that they seem poised to take over all aspects of gaming with an advanced metaverse platform called Project xCloud. In fact, we expect more acquisitions like this will happen as other companies notice Microsoft’s success and attempt it themselves. Definitely an interesting time in tech and esports!

Study Suggests Wearables Could Help Monitor Blood Sugar Levels

Huge strides have been made in wearables technology over the past few years, from improved battery life to better ways of tracking activity levels, and this could soon extend to helping people keep an eye on their blood sugar levels too. A new study shows that non-invasive technology like wearables could be used to track blood sugar levels without drawing any blood – allowing people with diabetes to monitor their glucose levels more easily than ever before.

The Results

While wearables are commonly used to help people monitor heart rate, a recent study indicates that they could also be helpful in monitoring blood sugar levels. For those who have diabetes or risk factors for developing it, tracking blood sugar level is vital—and that’s where smartwatches and other wearable tech might come in handy. Many of these devices already feature apps designed to help you keep tabs on your activity level; now, it seems they may have another function as well.

What Does This Mean?

A recent study indicates that data from wearables could be used to spot spikes and dips in blood sugar. While blood glucose monitors are FDA-approved for tracking levels over time, they aren’t approved for use during exercise. Instead, data collected from wearables is still considered experimental. But if studies like these continue to come out, it could mean a brighter future for people with diabetes.

The Implications for Diabetes Patients

As wearable fitness trackers have made their way into mainstream use, researchers have started exploring if and how they can be used to monitor health conditions, including diabetes. For example, one study indicated that wrist-worn devices could be used to track blood sugar levels as well as smartphone apps. The new findings suggest another avenue for improving blood sugar monitoring in people with diabetes who don’t wear a smartwatch or other device regularly; however, additional studies are needed to validate these findings.

The Future of Diabetes Treatment

In addition to glucometers, some smartwatches and fitness trackers are equipped with sensors that can detect blood sugar levels. It’s not yet clear how well these sensors work, but a new study from Stanford University suggests that data from wearable devices could help doctors improve diabetes treatment by providing more accurate information about what’s happening inside their patients’ bodies.

Specifications

The Garmin Epix 2 Multi-Sport Watch is the latest model from Garmin, which has been in the business of making high-quality GPS watches for years now. It comes with a bunch of different sensors and features designed to make it easy for you to track your workouts.
In addition to GPS and GLONASS, which are both fairly standard on most sport watches these days, the Epix 2 also supports Galileo (the European equivalent) and QZSS (Japan’s version). All told, this means that wherever you are in the world with access to satellite signals—which is basically anywhere outside a tunnel or cave—you should be able to get accurate results from your watch.
The barometric altimeter measures changes in altitude by taking into account changes in atmospheric pressure at sea level and then extrapolating higher up into space where there’s less air around us but still enough variation between locations that things like mountains can change how much oxygen there is per unit of volume around them compared with other places nearby (or if someone just took off their shoes). While not as precise as GPS data from satellites orbiting above us, it should still give sufficient accuracy for most people looking at their personal records over time instead of needing perfect measurements down to every tenth of an inch or something absurd like that; plus if they need more precision than what Baro will provide they might want something like altimeter goggles anyway so no worries here!

This watch is meant for those who are always active!!

The Garmin Epix 2 is a multisport watch that is intended for use by those who are always active. It has a battery life of up to eight days and supports a lot of activities, including swimming, cycling, hiking and running. The watch can also be used as a GPS device.
It is priced at $899.99 and $100 more for Epix 2 Sapphire.
It features the same great features as its predecessor:
  • A high-resolution color display with sunlight-readable graphics
  • A customizable touchscreen interface (with support for smart notifications)
  • On-device maps that display your current location

The Review

Acer has come a long way from its days of being an also-ran in computer hardware. Although once it was nearly unknown, Acer has become a leader in many of their product lines – especially their range of Chromebooks. The company was an early and enthusiastic adopter of Google’s cloud first approach to computing and entered into partnerships with Intel which have allowed them to create high quality systems at very affordable prices. When one looks at Acer’s new Spin 713 convertible Chromebook it is clear that they are gunning for top position in all categories: display, battery life, build quality, speed, memory and storage space. Let’s take a look at how well they hit those marks in our review of the Acer Chromebook Spin 713. What makes it great? One word sums up what makes Acer’s Chromebook Spin 713 such a great buy: specs. This machine supports not only some of the best specifications currently available but also some unique features such as 360° hinges. While you can pay more for models with better processors or faster drives, if your primary interest is performance you will be hard pressed to find something better than Acer’s 13 inch Chromebook—at least until next year when even better processors are released.

The fact is that if something seems too cheap there’s usually a reason for it – and often times those reasons are hidden in hard-to-find features or specifications. Acer has demonstrated a strong commitment to quality with their Chrombooks, however, and so even if you tend toward a more frugal lifestyle these devices can still be viable options.

Final Thoughts

The Acer Chromebook Spin 713 is a high-end notebook that is similar to other top of the line competitors. It comes in at under $629 and has features like a USB 3.2 port, 2256×1504 display, 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD. It also has an metal chassis that makes it extremely durable. When you compare its performance to other products in its price range it comes out on top every time. The only downside we see is that its battery life isn’t as good as competing brands but when you’re getting such great performance for so little money we can overlook one downside.
Also, if you like something that we didn’t like – or don’t like something that we did, let us know! Otherwise, enjoy our notes on the product and feel free to leave a comment below regarding any questions you may have. Finally, don’t forget to check out some of our other articles where you can find tons of interesting tips for your specific needs.

Robots are cleaning up Google’s Office

The ambitious Alphabet company, an umbrella organization that houses Google and all of its offshoots, has been creating new ways to automate processes using artificial intelligence (AI) since its inception in 2015. Now, the company has revealed that it’s using some of those same machines to clean up around its own offices! The news comes via Bloomberg, which got an exclusive look at one of Alphabet’s prototype robots named Brooke in action at Google’s campus in Mountain View, California.

Quick Overview

Alphabet Inc. (Google’s parent company) is using a team of robots to clean up around its Mountain View, Calif., office. The robots use artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning software to clean. One such robot is being put to work in an on-campus café ; it uses AI to determine where tables need dusting and then puts chairs back in place once it has finished tidying. It was also recently announced that Alphabet subsidiary DeepMind will partner  a Hospital on a pilot project that uses AI algorithms to help doctors diagnose eye disease.

How it works?

A.I.-powered navigation and obstacle avoidance software enables a compact, self-driving robot that has been built from scratch by Google. The company hasn’t disclosed many details about these prototypes beyond that they can navigate using standard collision-avoidance sensors like lidar and cameras, as well as advanced computer vision techniques. They navigate autonomously but have a remote control stop/start function in case of emergencies or if an operator needs to take over. The rover comes equipped with a number of attachments for performing different jobs including floor scrubbing, window washing, and carrying objects through tight spaces.

Will it take away the jobs of people?

According to Alphabet : “It doesn’t replace any human jobs because we think it will just get better and better, so there will be more and more work for humans to do—there won’t be less”. However, eventually these machines could become intelligent enough to negotiate with their human coworkers. And if that happens, a whole host of new problems emerge.

What we think about it?

It will be interesting to see how long it takes for these units are able to come together and become an ai unit. It is obvious that they will have some major upgrades before they can make that happen. The good news is that Alphabet is continuing their research and development into artificial intelligence in order to bring it one step closer. It seems like every year there are more and more advancements towards creating a true artificial intelligence.

Sony Hopes Activision Games Stay Multiplatform

How long will Sony support the idea of developers making console games exclusive to one platform? It looks like that answer may depend on how much third-party publishers want to make their games exclusively available to PlayStation owners. In an, Sony Worldwide Studios head said that Microsoft must continue to ensure Activision continues making its multi-platform games available on PlayStation.

Sony hopes Microsoft will stick to its promise

Sony wants to keep working with Activision and other publishers that offer games for both consoles and PCs. However, it’s up to Microsoft whether those companies will be allowed to continue publishing games on Xbox as well as PlayStation. Microsoft also said they are continuing their policies toward keeping multiplatform going forward.

Sony says Microsoft has spoken very clearly on this issue

Activision won’t be blocking PlayStation users from accessing its games. In a conversation, Sony Computer Entertainment president and global CEO said he had spoken with his opposite number at Microsoft about Activision’s controversial decision to lock players out of Destiny’s beta. It was their second chat on the subject in three days, which suggests that Sony isn’t just humoring one of its biggest third-party publishing partners — it really means it. Microsoft Gaming CEO has publicly stated that he believes that for consumers it is better for them if more people have access to their content than fewer people have access to their content.

Sony seems confident Microsoft will stand by their commitment

Sony fully expects its business partners to continue to ensure gamers have a vibrant, fun and smooth experience at all times. As always, they can only speak for their company and not for their competitors. That said, Sony supports its partners investing in new technologies but do so while respecting choices made by consumers. They believe in responsible businesses competing vigorously to provide consumers with great games is good for the industry.

Final Thoughts

In short, Sony says that it expects Microsoft to continue to ensure that games published by Activision continue to remain multiplatform. It even goes as far as say that there will be consequences if these agreements aren’t honored. PlayStation is looking out for its customers and, in turn, its business—and while it may sound like they’re just trying to bring down a rival company, they are actually looking out for gamers too. But if Xbox and Activision were able negotiate a deal that would prevent those games from coming over at all (or ever), then Playstation players wouldn’t have access either. That would be bad news for everyone.

Space Entertainment Enterprise is planning to launch a movie studio in Space

How cool would it be to see your movie play in space? UK-based entertainment enterprise named Space Entertainment Enterprise has announced that they plan to launch a movie studio into space. They are currently working on making this happen and they hope to have their first movie ready to go by 2024. What’s even cooler is that they are planning on launching the studio with Tom Cruise, obviously!

Quick Overview

Space Entertainment Enterprise has teamed up with a UK-based production company in order to take on Hollywood’s biggest names in space entertainment. They have revealed that they plan to begin by launching a multi-million pound science fiction movie studio dedicated entirely to producing feature films and television series set within our solar system. Though it is still very early days for their ambitious project, they believe that Europe should be at the forefront of filmmaking technology when it comes to space, as well as stimulating an interest in all things extraterrestrial. In fact, it is only through projects like these that we will be able to raise awareness about what lies beyond Earth’s atmosphere while simultaneously promoting scientific discoveries and research.

Axiom Station – The Technology Behind it

Axiom Station is more than just a spaceship. It’s also a movie studio. Once it arrives in orbit, Axiom Station will serve as a major filming hub, showcasing Axiom’s vision for how the entertainment industry can play an active role in developing thriving communities both on and off Earth. The station’s massive solar panels will be its primary source of power and are designed to both harness energy and produce films on their surfaces (they’re about three stories tall).  While building Axiom may sound like science fiction today, there’s still plenty that needs to happen before it becomes reality (although if you ask us, building a movie studio in outer space sounds like a pretty good deal).

Final Thoughts

We’re not 100% sure where we’re going with this yet, but here’s what we can tell you right now: As it stands, there aren’t a lot of companies that operate in outer space. We would like to change that. If our research is correct, there’s quite a bit of untapped value down here on Earth and off in deep-space as well. And as entrepreneurs who have been fortunate enough to take a rocket ship ride or two ourselves, we know that exploring outer-space is essential if mankind wants to continue pushing into its future—both financially and culturally.

We really like how light and slim it is too, although it does lack some ports when compared to PC laptops. Its macOs Monterey makes everything work as expected out of the box like standard USB ports. On top of everything else, there’s also a gorgeous display which makes working on Final Cut Pro X absolute pleasure since color accuracy remains high throughout thanks to its wide color gamut support and luminance maxing out at 1000 nits.

Beta of Android Games is launched by Google For Windows PC’s

Google announced today that it’s expanding its Google Play store to Windows PCs but only in three countries, putting Android games on Windows machines for the first time ever. The new store will appear alongside Google’s existing store on Windows PCs, with a unified interface that supports multitouch gestures such as pinch-to-zoom and swiping between screens. For now, users will be able to browse the storefront but not buy anything — developers must publish their apps to Google Play in order to make them available on Windows machines.

Quick Overview

Android is one of the most popular mobile operating systems in history. And today, Google has launched a way for gamers to enjoy it even if they don’t have a smartphone or tablet. The tech giant recently announced that it has released its first ever public preview version of Android games on desktop and laptop computers, enabling users to play their favorite mobile games—such as Clash Royale, Words with Friends 2 and more—on Windows PCs via Chrome or Chromium. This can be especially useful for gaming at work, since you might not have access to your phone or tablet but still want to play something. To use Android gaming in desktop mode, you must own either a Google Pixelbook or Asus Chromebook Flip.

What will be its benefits?

It’s clear that a lot of gamers play on both platforms and it can be quite a hassle to switch between your phone and your PC. Bringing it all together could help Google to control more time spent playing games, especially for players who previously used Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service or Sony’s PlayStation Now service. It will also give game developers another way to grow their business outside mobile by offering their titles to new customers. We expect gaming is just one vertical where Google plans to bring its mobile platform across other devices. For example, YouTube already has functionality allowing users to watch video content in full screen on their TV through Google Chromecast—so why not extend that across its entire app ecosystem?

What are those three countries?

Google has launched a new beta program to get its Play Store app onto more devices. The company has announced that its Gamepad compatibility service is now available for select users in Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea. Gamers can download several popular titles for their PC, like Monument Valley, Brave Frontier and Strikefleet Omega. The idea behind it is to give people even more options when it comes to gaming. If you’re in one of these regions, you can opt-in to try out game streaming by heading over here.

What we think about it?

We’re huge fans of Google and we have been waiting for a long time to see them take on one of Microsoft’s strong points, which is gaming. The ability to now play our favorite mobile Android games on our desktop and laptop computers is great news. We can’t wait to see how many other features they will allow us to use between our phones and computer. However, we are a little concerned that only newer operating systems like Window 10 are compatible with the feature. We hope in time more devices will be able to connect to each other seamlessly so we can do everything we need from any device at any time. This announcement could change everything for Google though if it proves successful and leads users who otherwise would not consider it, over to their side.
